A Stipple Ripple

The adventure of a pen, patience and many dots.

Stippling is when you create shading through dots. I made a quick little vid to show you what actually goes into creating a work in this style. In short… LOTS of time and patience. When I mentioned photoshop dither I actually was referring to the dissolve effect. I was in full-on ramble mode… trying to fill the silence and throw words out of my mouth for you to catch in your ear-hole.

Here’s the finished work. Edmund Plump Plump in the Park of Perplexity — ink on paper, (8.5” x 11”) intent: Edmund goes for a stroll. I wanted to challenge myself to shade this all in ink but use different techniques for different textures. I used a stipple effect on the organic shapes, a scribble effect on the ground and a crosshatch on the drapery.
