Tron: Legacy Soundtrack Review

I’m sitting here working on some art and listening to the Tron Legacy soundtrack that I had preordered. I figure lots of folks have interest in this so I’ll review it for poop and laughter. I should preface this with a disclaimer about my musical tastes. I’m not a huge Daft Punk fan but I enjoy their work and own one album. I also enjoy soundtracks and own several, especially video game soundtracks (Nier, Flower, Enlsaved, Braid, and so forth).

With that said I was pretty jazzed about Daft Punk doing the new Tron Legacy soundtrack. It seems like a perfect fit. And I’m a HUGE Tron fan. I remember making lego light cycles as a kid and I own the 20th anniversary DVD of the original film and the FPS video game, Tron 2.0. So, how is this new soundtrack? Well… it’s definitely a movie score. Fans of Daft Punk expecting thumping bass and full energy will be severely disappointed. This is Daft Punk + an orchestra and in the end… it’s a fairly straight forward playing-it-safe movie score. Daft Punk hardcore fans may want to skip the full album but I’d recommend at least picking up “Derezzed”, “Tron Legacy (End Titles)”, and “The Game Has Changed (The Inception’ish Bwam Bwom one).

Ultimately it’s a pretty good soundtrack but not the amazement everyone expected from Daft Punk.

END OF LINE.

Preview or buy the soundtrack at AMAZON.

Also, I made a Tron related comic a while back over at Faithful Mahoganists.
